Project 3: Fake Out

About:

Health and fitness tracking is a huge market with many different products that attempt to track fitness and healthy activities. One large issue is the fact that many people would rather "fake out" these devices rather than truly be motivated to improve health and fitness. Our group was tasked with finding a way to use a basic step counter to get users to enjoy fitness and improve health in a fun, engaging, and rewarding way.

Skills Practiced, Utilized, and Learned:

Getting Started:

We started with an initial round of interviews to learn as much as possible and gather information about current solutions, people's feelings about their current activity levels, what apps they currently use, feelings on positive reinforcement vs punishment, and feelings towards the idea of a Tamagotchi or Pokemon style app related to fitness.

Finding A Solution:

Using the data collected from the interviews in concert with methods learned in the class we came up with an initial idea. What if the user had a pet that they could take care of and they did so through fitness and getting steps? We took this basic idea and fleshed it out a bit then conducted a second round of interviews to present the idea to real-world people and get feedback for iteration and improvements.
